Responsible but not crazy

So we know that ‘bounded’ rationality is business studies jargon; taken to its extreme conclusion by wall-street hawks and Euro-zone rabbits.

The fact remains that organizations seeking to partake in business for a profit seek out rational decision-making as opposed to reactive, emotional action. Yes, it is important to ensure you appreciate the new world order, one where the consumer is truly King. Yes, the environmental and social issues posed by your product line, investment plan and ROI ambitions are acute and require special (read specialist) care.

No, it cannot be done to the complete detriment of the capitalist process; responsibility is one thing, the complete enforcement of ‘draconian’ measures to stop, destroy or remove corporations is irrational and is, quite frankly, a naive aspiration.

I respect Greenpeace, tremendously. It highlights important issues, uses the ‘force’ of passion and has impact above and beyond its message.

Yet Greenpeace (and the like) need to understand that corporations are not going anywhere in this manner.

Until the concept of ‘bounded’ rationality remains, they will be looking to make a profit. Executives do not decide policy detrimental to owner wealth. They merely align the business in order to meet and greet social expectations.

They are supposed to be responsible, but they are not crazy.
